The show takes listeners to Dallas-based Ready Services and to a Kansas City-based plumbing company where listeners will hear from workers who are taking advantage of the services offered by the chaplains who visit them at work every week. The show also features Dallas-based Marketplace Ministries, which supplies more chaplains to the workplace than any other organization.
"CONTACT," a public affairs radio program, is a production of the Sacred Heart Program, Inc., a Jesuit nonprofit production facility, which gets its funding from private donations. Sunday, June 23, 6 p.m., EWTN (cable) - "Exploring the Catholic Church." The more one explores the rich treasury of resources belonging exclusively to the Catholic Church, the deeper one's relationship with the Lord grows. Author and university professor Dr. Marcellino D'Ambrosio discusses the distinctive features that set Catholicism apart from all other denominations. Repeats noon June 25; 2 a.m. and 10 p.m. June 28.
Sunday, June 23, 7 a.m., WISC (CBS) - "Mass." Celebrated by Msgr. Thomas Campion, sponsored by Apostolate to the Handicapped.
Monday, June 24, 8 p.m., USA (cable) - "A Tribute to Tom Hanks: The 2002 AFI Life Achievement Award." The American Film Institute salutes the five-time nominated and two-time winner ("Philadelphia," "Forrest Gump") of the Academy Award, who also won an Emmy Award and is the first actor since Spencer Tracy to receive back-to-back Oscars.
Friday, June 28, 7 p.m., WMSN (Fox) - "Lost in Space" (1998). While rocketing to a distant planet, an intergalactic family (headed by William Hurt and Mimi Rogers) is confronted by an evil stowaway (Gary Oldman) who causes their spaceship to careen off course into various dangers. Directed by Stephen Hopkins, the result is a noisy, big-budget version of the 1960's TV series, but here the special effects win out over a jumbled, overly busy storyline. Frequent fantasy violence, mild sexual references, and occasional coarse expressions. The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops classification of the theatrical version was A-II - adults and adolescents. The Motion Picture Association of America rating was PG-13 - parents are strongly cautioned. Some material may be inappropriate for children under 13.
Saturday, June 29, 7 p.m., WMTV (NBC) - "Music of the Heart" (1999). Inspiring true story of an abandoned wife and mother (Meryl Streep) who turns her life around by moving to Harlem and instilling self-esteem in underprivileged schoolchildren by teaching them the disciplined art of playing the violin. Anchored by Streep's finely tuned performance, director Wes Craven's biographical movie realistically captures a devastated woman's personal growth and the value of the arts in the educational curriculum. An implied affair and an instance of rude language. The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops classification of the theatrical version was A-III - adults. The Motion Picture Association of America rating was PG - parental guidance suggested.
