'Sunday Afternoon Live'

MADISON -- In the final concert of the season, "Sunday Afternoon Live from the Elvehjem" welcomes the University of Wisconsin-LaCrosse Brass Trio featuring David Cooper on trumpet, Daren Robbins on horn, and James Wheat on trombone Sunday, May 12, at 12:30 p.m. in Brittingham Gallery III.

Featured will be pieces from contemporary composers such as Eric Ewazen and William Schmidt as well as the 20th century French composer Francis Poulenc, Dutch composer Jan Koetsier, and J.S. Bach.

There will be a reception after the performance; a free docent-led tour of the Elvehjem Museum begins at 2 p.m.


Concert at Monona Terrace

MADISON -- The Madison East High School jazz ensemble will perform a free concert at Monona Terrace Community and Convention Center on Wednesday, May 15, as part of the "School Showcase" concert series.

The show will start at 6 p.m. with refreshments available for purchase beginning at 5:30 p.m.

Monona Terrace is located at One John Nolen Dr. Parking is available in the Monona Terrace parking ramp for a nominal fee.


Auditions for upcoming plays

JEFFERSON -- Auditions will be held on Thursday, May 16, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Jefferson Performing Arts Center, 700 W. Milwaukee St. here.

The Actors Group will be presenting the works of American playwrights O'Neill, Williams, Miller, Inge, among others, and original works of Wisconsin playwrights. Auditions will consist of reading from scripts.

Theater Bus

MADISON -- Theater Bus for people over 60 will visit the International Crane Foundation, take an Upper Dells Boat trip, and have lunch at Ishnala on Mirror Lake on Tuesday, June 4. The cost is $49 including transportation. Call 608-257-0003 for reservations before Tuesday, May 14, or until full.

The Theater Bus will also travel to Racine to see "The Amorous Ambassador," a rollicking, romantic comedy presented by the Racine Theater Guild on Sunday, June 16. Lunch will be at Lucarelli's Docks Waterfront Restaurant with a view of Lake Michigan. Cost is $44. Call 608-257-0003 for reservations before Thursday, May 16, or until full.

Taped at the Kohl Center in Madison, Band Director Michael Leckrone and the University of Wisconsin-Madison's Varsity Band deliver a concert that celebrates American music, featuring everything from Little Richard's "Tutti Frutti" to music from Leonard Bernstein's "West Side Story" and a medley of patriotic songs.
