SINSINAWA — Sr. Jeannine Butler, OP, died July 1, 2015, at St. Dominic Villa. Her religious name was Sr. Mary Lilia. The funeral Mass was held in Queen of the Rosary Chapel at Sinsinawa July 6, 2015, followed by burial in the Motherhouse Cemetery.
Sister Jeannine made her first religious profession as a Sinsinawa Dominican August 5, 1949, and her final profession August 5, 1952. She taught for 22 years and served as principal for 33 years and assistant to the principal for four years. Sister Jeannine served in Illinois, Nebraska, Alabama, Minnesota, and Wisconsin.
Sister Jeannine was born October 12, 1928, in Madison, the daughter of John and Magdeline (Kelliher) Butler. Her parents and two brothers, an infant and Jerry Butler, preceded her in death. She is survived by a sister, Julie Berthold; nieces; nephews; and her Dominican Sisters with whom she shared life for 65 years.
