SINSINAWA -- Sr. Cassian Faragher died May 2, 2008, at St. Dominic Villa, Sinsinawa. The Mass of Resurrection was held in Queen of the Rosary Chapel at Sinsinawa May 5, followed by burial in the Motherhouse Cemetery.

Sister Cassian made her first religious profession as a Sinsinawa Dominican August 5, 1929, and her final profession August 5, 1932. Sister Cassian taught students in the elementary and intermediate grades for 46 years and tutored at a Learning Center for 11 years prior to her retirement in 1986. She served in Missouri, Colorado, Wisconsin, Illinois, Minnesota, South Dakota, Nebraska, Oklahoma, and Iowa.

In the Diocese of Madison, Sister Cassian served as professional staff at St. Rose School, Cuba City, 1932-1935. She served as the sacristan at the Motherhouse, 1986-2002, when she moved to St. Dominic Villa.

Sister Cassian was born January 9, 1911, in Madison, the biological daughter of James Wiric and Maude Schott. Her adoptive parents were John and Elizabeth (McDonald) Faragher. All four parents; two brothers, Joseph Faragher and Joseph James Francis Faragher; and two half brothers, Joseph Adams and Robert Adams, preceded her in death. She is survived by one half sister, a niece, and her Dominican Sisters with whom she shared life for 78 years.
