SINSINAWA -- Sr. Mildred Thompson (Robard) died May 10, 2009, at Mobile Infirmary Medical Center, Mobile, Ala. The Mass of Resurrection was in Queen of the Rosary Chapel, Sinsinawa, May 19, 2009, with burial in the Motherhouse Cemetery.

Sister Mildred was born October 13, 1929, in Mobile, Ala. Sister Mildred made her first religious profession as a Sinsinawa Dominican August 5, 1950, and her final profession August 5, 1953. She taught elementary school for nine years and junior high school for 10 years; was a high school guidance counselor for one year; and was a volunteer tutor for five years. Sister Mildred served in higher education as an assistant professor for eight years, an assistant academic dean for two years, and as an assistant vice president of academic affairs for two years. She worked in publishing for four years and conducted academic and historic research for nine years. Sister Mildred is the author of Ida B. Wells-Barnett: An Exploratory Study of an American Black Woman, 1893-1930. She served in Wyoming, Illinois, the District of Columbia, Alabama, Indiana, Wisconsin, Louisiana, and Texas. In the Diocese of Madison, Sister Mildred served at the assistant academic dean at Edgewood College, Madison, 1985.
