Volunteering At The Beacon ( 9:00 am )

Volunteering at The Beacon, the homeless day resource center in Madison.
Who? The Beacon is looking for individuals who would like to make a difference in the daily lives of individuals and families experiencing homelessness.
What? Attend a volunteer orientation to learn how you can volunteer to help ensure that people’s basic needs are met. Catholic Charities needs volunteers 365 days a year from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. in a variety of roles. Shifts are from two and a half to four hours long and can be on a regular schedule or as your schedule allows.
When? Volunteer orientation is on Fridays at 9 a.m. for just over one hour, including a tour. There is also an orientation on Sunday, Sept. 22, at 1 p.m.

Two ‘stargazing’ Nights Planned By College ( 7:45 pm )

Edgewood College has planned two "observing nights" for stargazers of all ages, where a new, Obsession Dobsonian Telescope, will be deployed at The Painted Forest in Valton, located, in rural Sauk County, where the natural darkness is perfect for observing stars and other celestial bodies. On Saturdays, Sept. 14 and Oct. 5, beginning at 7:45 p.m., the departments of chemistry, geoscience, physics, and arts, welcome interested community members to join students, faculty, and staff to explore the heavens with the new Obsession. Events will extend well into the evening. Visitors should plan on using a roadmap to reach Valton, as the mobile phone coverage in the rural area can be a challenge.

The Theater Bus for persons 55 and over will be traveling to the following events:
• Sunday, Sept. 15 -- A Comedy of Tenors at Sunset Playhouse in Elm Grove. It’s 1930s Paris and the stage is set for the concert of the century, as long as the producer can keep the Italian superstar and his hot-blooded wife from causing runaway chaos. Lunch is at the Oconomowoc Golf Club. Cost is $81.
• Sunday, Sept. 29 -- Baskerville at Wisconsin Rapids Community Theater.   Arthur Conan Doyle’s classic The Hound of the Baskervilles has been transformed into a murderously funny adventure. Don’t miss this hilarious interpretation and see how far from elementary the truth can be. Lunch is at Ridges Golf Club. Cost is $78.
• Wednesday, Oct. 9 -- Celebration Belle Fall Foliage Cruise. A trip down the Mississippi River viewing  the beautiful scenery and the colors of nature. A buffet lunch is included. Cost is $94.
• Saturday, Oct. 12 -- Frank Fontaine’s Bandstand USA at the Meyer Theater in Green Bay. It’s Let Me Be Frank Productions 20-year reunion show. They are reviving this fan-favorite production from years ago. Lunch is at the Stadium View Bar & Grille. Cost is $90.
• Saturday, Oct. 26 -- River Arts Center in Sauk Prairie presents The Four Freshmen. With great songs from the past and the present, the Freshmen deliver a world of music like no other. Lunch is at Lake Wisconsin Country Club. Cost is $80.

Knights of Columbus Council 4879 announces its fall fish fry schedule starting Friday, Sept. 13, and continuing once per month on the second Friday of October, November, and December at The Round Table, 1611 N. Bristol St. Doors open at 4 p.m. with the fish fry served from 5 to 8 p.m. The dinner features baked or deep-fried cod, shrimp, and chicken tenders. Fish fries support various youth groups in Sun Prairie.

Volunteering At The Beacon ( 9:00 am )

Volunteering at The Beacon, the homeless day resource center in Madison.
Who? The Beacon is looking for individuals who would like to make a difference in the daily lives of individuals and families experiencing homelessness.
What? Attend a volunteer orientation to learn how you can volunteer to help ensure that people’s basic needs are met. Catholic Charities needs volunteers 365 days a year from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. in a variety of roles. Shifts are from two and a half to four hours long and can be on a regular schedule or as your schedule allows.
When? Volunteer orientation is on Fridays at 9 a.m. for just over one hour, including a tour. There is also an orientation on Sunday, Sept. 22, at 1 p.m.

• Sunday, Sept. 29 -- Baskerville at Wisconsin Rapids Community Theater.   Arthur Conan Doyle’s classic The Hound of the Baskervilles has been transformed into a murderously funny adventure. Don’t miss this hilarious interpretation and see how far from elementary the truth can be. Lunch is at Ridges Golf Club. Cost is $78.
• Wednesday, Oct. 9 -- Celebration Belle Fall Foliage Cruise. A trip down the Mississippi River viewing  the beautiful scenery and the colors of nature. A buffet lunch is included. Cost is $94.
• Saturday, Oct. 12 -- Frank Fontaine’s Bandstand USA at the Meyer Theater in Green Bay. It’s Let Me Be Frank Productions 20-year reunion show. They are reviving this fan-favorite production from years ago. Lunch is at the Stadium View Bar & Grille. Cost is $90.
• Saturday, Oct. 26 -- River Arts Center in Sauk Prairie presents The Four Freshmen. With great songs from the past and the present, the Freshmen deliver a world of music like no other. Lunch is at Lake Wisconsin Country Club. Cost is $80.
• Wednesday, Oct. 30 -- The Games Afoot at the Palace Theater in Wisconsin Dells. Lunch is included. Cost is $84.
