Volunteering At The Beacon ( 9:00 am )

Volunteering at The Beacon, the homeless day resource center in Madison.
Who? The Beacon is looking for individuals who would like to make a difference in the daily lives of individuals and families experiencing homelessness.
What? Attend a volunteer orientation to learn how you can volunteer to help ensure that people’s basic needs are met. Catholic Charities needs volunteers 365 days a year from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. in a variety of roles. Shifts are from two and a half to four hours long and can be on a regular schedule or as your schedule allows.
When? Volunteer orientation is on Fridays at 9 a.m. for just over one hour, including a tour. There is also an orientation on Sunday, Sept. 22, at 1 p.m.

St. Mary of the Lake Parish will hold its 58th annual Country Fair on Sunday, Oct. 20, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The event features their world-famous fruitcakes, a roast beef dinner starting at 10:30 a.m., resale shop, bake sale, and raffles. St. Jerome School will hold its fifth annual gala on Saturday, Oct. 19, in the St. Jerome gym, 1550 Farnham St. Cocktails begin at 5:30 p.m. with music. The Overstory Book Discussion At Sinsinawa ( 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm )

The fall book discussion at Sinsinawa Mound will focus on The Overstory by Richard Powers, on October 1 and 22, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. each evening. Powers recently won the Pulitzer Prize for this novel on trees, animals, and activism. Each session will cover roughly half of the book, and participants are welcome to attend one or both. Unplanned Showings ( 6:30 pm )

The movie Unplanned will be shown at two parishes in the Diocese of Madison:
• Tuesday, Oct. 1, 6 p.m. -- St. Francis Xavier Fellowship Hall, 2947 Thinnes St., Cross Plains. There is no cost to attend, but freewill offerings and diapers benefitting the Women's Care Center in Madison will be accepted.
• Thursday, Oct. 24, 6:30 p.m. -- St. Thomas Aquinas Social Hall, 602 Everglade Dr., Madison. Admission is free, but students under 17 are welcome, but must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
The movie Unplanned is a pro-life, fact-based drama about an abortion clinic director, Abby Johnson, who gradually becomes uneasy about the marketing of abortion and what is really taking place in the clinics.
The film is effective, but unsparing in its effort to convey the full horror of killing the unborn.
All are encouraged and invited to experience this movie.

Sinsinawa Offers Glass Art Classes ( All Day )

Sinsinawa Mound is sponsoring two glass art classes on Saturday, Oct. 26. Participants will design and create glass ornaments during the 10 a.m. class and a glass tray or bowl in the 1 p.m. class. The registration deadline is October 18, and the fee for each class is $65. The Theater Bus for persons 55 and over will be traveling to the following events:
• Sunday, Sept. 15 -- A Comedy of Tenors at Sunset Playhouse in Elm Grove. It’s 1930s Paris and the stage is set for the concert of the century, as long as the producer can keep the Italian superstar and his hot-blooded wife from causing runaway chaos. Lunch is at the Oconomowoc Golf Club. Cost is $81.
• Sunday, Sept. 29 -- Baskerville at Wisconsin Rapids Community Theater.   Arthur Conan Doyle’s classic The Hound of the Baskervilles has been transformed into a murderously funny adventure. Don’t miss this hilarious interpretation and see how far from elementary the truth can be. Lunch is at Ridges Golf Club. Cost is $78.
• Wednesday, Oct. 9 -- Celebration Belle Fall Foliage Cruise. A trip down the Mississippi River viewing  the beautiful scenery and the colors of nature. A buffet lunch is included. Cost is $94.
• Saturday, Oct. 12 -- Frank Fontaine’s Bandstand USA at the Meyer Theater in Green Bay. It’s Let Me Be Frank Productions 20-year reunion show. They are reviving this fan-favorite production from years ago. Lunch is at the Stadium View Bar & Grille. Cost is $90.
• Saturday, Oct. 26 -- River Arts Center in Sauk Prairie presents The Four Freshmen. With great songs from the past and the present, the Freshmen deliver a world of music like no other. Lunch is at Lake Wisconsin Country Club. Cost is $80.
• Wednesday, Oct. 30 -- The Games Afoot at the Palace Theater in Wisconsin Dells. Lunch is included. Cost is $84.

Sinsinawa Art Gallery annual quilt exhibit, "Quilts to Warm Your Body and Comfort Your Soul," will be held October 3 through November 29. The exhibit is fresh and unique each year as quilts can only be displayed once. Quilters who participate in the show have a connection to a Sinsinawa Dominican Sister or a Mound staff person.

Bingo is being played every first, third, and fifth Tuesday in 2019 in the St. John the Baptist School gym, 125 Church St. Doors open at 4 p.m. Food is available.




Unplanned ( 6:30 pm - 7:30 pm )

The movie Unplanned will be shown at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, 401 S. Owen Dr., Madison, on Tuesday, Oct. 29, at 6:30 p.m.
A discussion will follow the movie with Christine Galvin, a counselor on the Rachel's Vineyard retreat team, facilitating a short discussion for all interested audience members.
Rachel's Vineyard retreats provide post-abortion healing for those whose lives have been touched by abortion in any way.
There will also be a diaper collection for the three local pregnancy centers
The movie Unplanned is a pro-life, fact-based drama about an abortion clinic director, Abby Johnson, who gradually becomes uneasy about the marketing of abortion and what is really taking place in the clinics.
The film is effective, but unsparing in its effort to convey the full horror of killing the unborn.
All are encouraged and invited to experience this movie.

Theater Bus Events ( All Day )

The Theater Bus for persons 55 and over will be traveling to the following events:
• Sunday, Sept. 15 -- A Comedy of Tenors at Sunset Playhouse in Elm Grove. It’s 1930s Paris and the stage is set for the concert of the century, as long as the producer can keep the Italian superstar and his hot-blooded wife from causing runaway chaos. Lunch is at the Oconomowoc Golf Club. Cost is $81.
• Sunday, Sept. 29 -- Baskerville at Wisconsin Rapids Community Theater.   Arthur Conan Doyle’s classic The Hound of the Baskervilles has been transformed into a murderously funny adventure. Don’t miss this hilarious interpretation and see how far from elementary the truth can be. Lunch is at Ridges Golf Club. Cost is $78.
• Wednesday, Oct. 9 -- Celebration Belle Fall Foliage Cruise. A trip down the Mississippi River viewing  the beautiful scenery and the colors of nature. A buffet lunch is included. Cost is $94.
• Saturday, Oct. 12 -- Frank Fontaine’s Bandstand USA at the Meyer Theater in Green Bay. It’s Let Me Be Frank Productions 20-year reunion show. They are reviving this fan-favorite production from years ago. Lunch is at the Stadium View Bar & Grille. Cost is $90.
• Saturday, Oct. 26 -- River Arts Center in Sauk Prairie presents The Four Freshmen. With great songs from the past and the present, the Freshmen deliver a world of music like no other. Lunch is at Lake Wisconsin Country Club. Cost is $80.
• Wednesday, Oct. 30 -- The Games Afoot at the Palace Theater in Wisconsin Dells. Lunch is included. Cost is $84.
