'Meditating with Poetry'

SINSINAWA -- Sinsinawa Mound will host the "Meditating with Poetry for Lent" retreat on Friday, March 21, from 7:30 p.m. to Sunday, March 23, at 1 p.m.

Registration deadline is March 7. Cost is $164 for overnight guests or $109 for commuters.

Concerts at college

MADISON -- Two concerts will be held in St. Joseph Chapel on the Edgewood College campus. Hugo Wolf's Italienisches Liederbuch (The Italian Songbook) will be performed as part of the Concerts on Campus series on Friday, Feb. 28, at 7 p.m. This concert is free of charge.

Trevor Stephenson, piano, presents "The Americans" in an Edgewood College faculty recital on Saturday, March 1, at 7 p.m. Tickets may be purchased at the door: $7 general admission, $5 for students and seniors, and $3 with an Edgewood ID.

Winery open house

PRAIRIE DU SAC -- Wollersheim Winery is hosting its annual open house on Saturday and Sunday, March 1 and 2, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The theme will focus on oak aging. In addition to barrel aging explanations with winemaker Philippe and grapevine-pruning demonstrations with Bob Wollersheim, visitors will be able to take self-guided tours and observe cooking with wine demonstrations with visiting chef Scott McGlinchey.

Wollersheim Winery is located about 25 miles northwest of Madison. There is no admission fee for the open house.

Mardi Gras concert

DE FOREST -- A "Fat Tuesday" Mardi Gras concert will be held at St. Olaf Church, 623 Jefferson St., on Tuesday, March 4, at 7 p.m.

The concert will feature Steve Johnson and Bill Frederick, along with Mike Welch on woodwinds.

A free-will offering will be accepted to benefit the adult choirs of St. Olaf Parish and St. Peter Parish, Madison, who will travel to Italy in June.

A reception will follow.

Musical to be presented

MADISON -- "The Edgewood College Story - A Musical" will be presented on Saturday, March 8, at 7:30 p.m. at the Masonic Center, 301 Wisconsin Ave.

This musical by Phil Martin celebrates the history of Edgewood College through story, song, and dance.

Ticket orders received by Feb. 28 will be mailed out. Orders received after that date will be held at the door.

Family folk dance

MADISON -- A family folk dance with Roll Up the Rug String Band will be held on Friday, Feb. 28, at St. James Parish, 1128 St. James Ct.

Dances will be called and taught. There is no experience necessary. The dance starts at 6:30 and ends at 10 p.m. Tickets are $15/family, $5/adult, and $3/children over three. Refreshments will be available.

Following are some theatrical movies and television programs of note. This information is being provided to assist people in making viewing choices.

Monday-Sunday, 7 a.m., 11:10 a.m., 6 p.m., 11 p.m., EWTN (cable) -- "Daily Mass." No 6 p.m. showing on Sunday.

Sunday, March 2, 7 a.m., WISC (CBS) - "Mass." Celebrated by Msgr. Thomas Campion, sponsored by Apostolate to the Handicapped.

Sunday, March 2, 12:30 p.m., EWTN (cable) - "J.S. Bach: Organ Music with Ton Koopman." Ton Koopman performs the organ works of the great Baroque master composer, Johann Sebastian Bach, in the Cathedral of St. Marien in Freiberg, Germany. The cathedral, with its 12th century Romanesque architectural style, houses one of Europe's great Silbermann organs. Gottfried Silbermann, who lived from 1683 to 1753, was born near Freiberg. He and Bach were contemporaries, and the two friends are known to have worked together as colleagues. Repeats 2 a.m. March 8.

Sunday, March 2, 2:30 p.m., WHA (PBS) - "Over Ireland." This special, shot entirely from the air, surveys Ireland from the rough-hewn beauty of its towering bluffs and weathered granite tors to the ancient mystery of its Celtic monasteries, to the storybook charm of its country cottages and its lush farmland. The narration reaches far back into Ireland's history, literature, and culture; a soundtrack featuring Irish musicians lends an added dimension of emotion and majesty. The program is narrated by actor Liam Neeson.

Sunday, March 2, 6 p.m., EWTN (cable) - "Franciscan University presents: Anti-Catholic Attitudes." Bob Lockwood, former publisher of Our Sunday Visitor, joins host Fr. Michael Scanlan and panelists Dr. Regis Martin and Dr. Scott Hahn as they discuss the historical roots and contemporary examples of prejudice against Catholics and how one can respond when the church is attacked. Repeats noon March 4; 2 a.m. March 7.

Sunday, March 2, 8:30 p.m., WYOU (cable) - "Christopher Close-up: The Life of John Paul II." John Moody, senior vice president of Fox News Channel and biographer of the pope, shares his insights on John Paul II and comments on the Catholic Church's handling of the recent sexual abuse crisis.
