Benefit concert for Luke House

MADISON -- The Edgewood College Music Department will sponsor a concert to benefit the Luke House Community Meal Program.

The Edgewood College Wind Ensemble and the Campus-Community Band will be performing on Sunday, Nov. 10, at 2:30 p.m. in the St. Joseph Chapel, located on the Edgewood College campus.

The admission price for this concert will be in the form of a freewill offering to benefit Luke House.

Children's Music Festival Nov. 17

SINSINAWA -- Three local children's choirs will join voices Nov. 17, at 3 p.m., at Sinsinawa Mound (Rosary Chapel) for the 2nd annual Children's Music Festival.

The three choirs will be the Sinsinawa Children's Choir under the direction of Sr. Marie Juan Maney, the Dubuque Children's Cadet Choir under the direction of Patty Millius, and the Dubuque Children's Advanced Choir under the direction of Bill Hesse.

College student recital concerts

MADISON -- The Edgewood College Music Department's Student Recital Series will present Kristopher Gasch, pianist, and Angela Cook, mezzo-soprano, performing Saturday, Nov. 9, at 7 p.m. in the St. Joseph Chapel located on the Edgewood College campus.

There is no admission charge for this concert.

Drama club presents 'Oklahoma'

MADISON -- West High School's Regent Drama Club is presenting Rodgers and Hammerstein's Oklahoma! in its 100th year.

Performances are Friday and Saturday, Nov. 8 and 9, 15 and 16, at 7:30 p.m.

Tickets at $5 are available from the West High School box office or at the door.

South African performers at Sinsinawa

SINSINAWA -- Team iThemba, a multiracial music, dance, and drama group from South Africa will perform Monday, Nov. 11, at Sinsinawa Mound at 12:30 and 7 p.m. Performers will also be available between the one-hour shows to spend time with the audience.

Team iThemba seven-member team is sponsored in the U.S. by the northern states region of Youth for Christ. They perform to raise money for a home for homeless children in South Africa.

Kanopy Dance Company winter show

MADISON -- Kanopy Dance Company opens its 27th season with its "Winter Joy, Celebration!" concert.

The production will be presented Nov. 15 and 16, at 8 p.m. and Nov. 17, at 3:30 p.m. at UW Music Hall. It will feature premieres by Robert Cleary, Lisa Thurrell, and Kiro Kopulos set to music created by composer Alderman Thomas Powell, Benjamin Britten, and Robert Rich. Kristanne Connolly of Connolly Dance Company will be featured guest artist.

Music Hall concert ticket prices are $15 general admission and $13 for seniors and students. For reservations call 608-255-2211. Group rates are available at a 10 percent discount on 10 or more tickets for the same show. UW Music Hall is on lower Bascom Hill near Park St. and University Ave. Parking is available at the Lake St. ramp and under the UW Business School, Mills St. at University Ave. Handicap access is at the rear entrance to the building, ground level.

Paul Colman trio to perform in Madison

MADISON -- The internationally celebrated Paul Colman Trio (Pc3) from Australia will perform on Sunday, Nov. 17, at 7 p.m., at St. Dennis Church in Madison.

WNWC Christian Radio Station in Madison will be sponsoring the concert with radio host Ann Manion as master of ceremonies. It will also be possible to win tickets through WNWC promotions.

This band is much more than just music. In a recent press release, Pc3 said, "When Jesus was asked in Matthew 22 what the most important thing was, He said to love God and love one another. The day we realize that music isn't the tool we want to use anymore, we'll do something else. But until then, we feel very called to come to America.

"Everybody looks to America as the leaders of the world in culture, in economics and everything else, and we want to be here at a time of change and challenge and serve the people of America."

Tickets may be purchased in advance for $5 at the Family Christian Bookstores, 1746 Eagan Rd. on Madison's east side, or 6730 Odana Rd., on Madison's west side. They may also be purchased at Words of Hope, 4112 Monona Dr., or at St. Dennis Church, 505 Dempsey Rd., Madison.

Tickets may be purchased at the door for $7 on the day of the concert, but seating is limited.

Three modern day children with a laptop computer that can bring people from the past into the present bring to life biblical personalities. In this adventure, the kids bring forth the prophet Daniel who during the story teaches them that a prophet isn't a fortune teller and that faith in God can turn big problems into bigger victories.

Thursday, Nov. 7, 8 p.m., WHA (PBS) - "Frontline: Truth and Lies in Baghdad." Investigating the claims and counter-claims about Iraq's weapons of mass destruction and the opposition an invading army will face.

Friday, Nov. 8, 7 p.m., WHA (PBS) - "WeekEnd: Election Hangover Special."

Sunday, Nov. 10, 7 a.m., WISC (CBS) - "Mass." Celebrated by Msgr. Thomas Campion, sponsored by Apostolate to the Handicapped.

Sunday, Nov. 10, 6 p.m., WKOW (ABC) - "Beauty and the Beast" (1991). Enchanting animated fairy tale of a young maiden who rescues her father from a ferocious beast only to fall in love with the creature's gentler qualities. Computer graphics enhance classic Disney animation for eye-pleasing visuals enlivened by rousing musical numbers and delightful characterizations from directors Kirk Wise and Gary Trousdale. Brief scary scenes. The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops classification of the theatrical version was A-I - general patronage. The Motion Picture Association of America rating was G - general audiences.
